i have curly hair. like, ringlets and such, not the fluffy all over kind.


lately i've been going shorter and shorter with it.





i'm getting my hair cut this week,

I would suggest no, you would most likely end up with a afro. Plus you can't straiten if if you want to since it's so short. Why don't you cut it to your shoulders and see how you reacts to that.Cutting curly hair short?

Curly Hair & Short Hairstyle Ideas?

Next spring, I want to completely chop off my hair. I'm actually going to donate it... I figure that someone else can appreciate it more than I do. Anyways, I want to cut it short and possibly have long bangs... sort of a punk/cute hairstyle. That sounds simple enough, except that my hair is really curly/wavy/thick. I want some suggestions as to what I could do to get the look that I want. I figure I'm going to have to wind up using pomade or something along those lines....

Well I have super thick hair, but its wavy, and I have a super hard time with it. The style your talking about sounds cute and its for a great cause. I'm not sure it will work though...I know with my hair I had it short once and it looked like an afro.

that sounds like a cute look! don't go too short though or else it may just end up not looking how you want it to look. also, you can straighten it then put some straightening spray into a hair brush and brush your hair with it.

I think it will look great
If your hair is very curly, cutting it above your shoulders is a bad idea. I have very curly hair and my hair needs to be below my shoulders so that it has enough weight to it. Above the shoulders will spring up a couple inches and be very unruly. The best cut for my hair is layers and the legnth is a about 3-4 inches below my shoulders. I get compliments on the cut all the time because people hardly ever see a good, flattering cut on curly hair.
I say go for it. My hair is long and I can't do anything with it because my hair is so soft. I always like short hair because it's easy for my hair to grow back. There is nothing wrong with a new look once in awhile.

usually i just wash my hair and use some leave-in conditioner and my hair does the rest. if i cut it, i don't think the weight would be enough to make it un-frizzy.

If you have curly hair, you shouldn't be washing everyday. It's not gross, it's exactly what you should do. I have curly hair so I speak from experience. Don't cut your hair. Think of it like this: It will take less time to style your hair is it's shorter. BUT when your hair is long you can just throw in some product and walk out the door. This isn't the case with short curly hair. You have to do it everyday. If you are having problems with frizz, try using a mousse instead of leave-in conditioner. I love Biolage but if you're on a smaller budget try VO5 Curvaceous Curls. It's very light so you won't feel like you have product in.Curly hair, short haircut, lots of work?
I just did the same cut, with the same hair.


First off, with curly hair, make sure they layer your hair when they cut it, so it doesn't poof out like a triangle.


After washing my hair, I run anti-frizz cream through, and while I still have some left over on my hands, I scrunch my hair. It doesn'y need more curls, but at least this way, I can kind of control where they go. A little bit of flexible hairspray keeps it in shape.


As for not washing, you'll need to shampoo more than twice a week, since you'll probably need to use products on short hair. Get a clarifying shampoo (pantene carries one) so the product doesn't gunk up your cute new cut.
