The links won't work for me, so I don;t know how short you want to go. however, I do know (cuz I have curly hair too) that the shorter you cut, the more tight your curls will be. When curly hair gets longer, the weight takes out some of the curl. You may end up with an afro. This is fine of course, if it's what you want.

Curly hair almost never looks good short.
if you cut your hair short your hair will have a much greater tendency to be frizzy and shaggy, and it will take greater effort to make it look nice. When I had really long hair I could just get out of bed in the morning and it would look fine.
I for one wish I had long curley hair. But I dint think you should cut your hair short especially if you have tight bouncy curls. I really think you would regret it because it will be very hard to manage.
i cut my hair short once...don't do it unless your going to straighten it everyday. I have very thick naturally curly hair, if you cut it the weight of your hair will be less...so the curls will be tight and short. Plus frizzy... take care in deciding the length you want to cut it...you could wind up with the length a lot shorter than you planned.

i'm sorry but the links aren't working. short curly hair is cute if you can find the right style for your face shape and most importantly the right hair dresser to cut ur hair, some who understands not just the picture u take to them of what u want but someone who understand your hair and what your hair can or can not accomplish and short is is so easy to do and keep!my hair is wavy i so wish i had tight curls there are so many cute short hair cuts. do your research even if it takes some time. hope it works out for ya.

The length pulls the curl down, relaxing it. Cutting it shorter will make it kink up more.

No, you should not. the gals with straight hair would love to have those curls, %26amp; have to pay, to get them. Keep your curls, %26amp; flatten them every now %26amp; then, to please just yourself.

I myself prefer short over curly, but that doesn't mean everybody does, it is a person's opinion on what they like. If you like it curly, keep it that way, if not change it. In the end, it's all up to you.
Of coarse you should, why wouldn't you want to try something different, you can always get it back.

Should I cut my curly hair shorter?
Well I have curly hair and it's ok when it's semi short (1 or 2 inches past my shoulders) but the longer layers are trying to curl but are only slightly wavy and weird looking.
If I cut my longest lay about 2 inches, do you think it would curl better?

I love how it looks in the front but in the back it looks kinda discolored or a little dry probably try putting on some more mousse( the hair kind ha ha) on the back=]

I let my hair dry natural and then put them in. Anyway I would cut an inch or two off your longest as I am doing next week to give them an extra bounce. Get good products and get a great hair dresser who knows what they are doing and can give you lots of great pointers. Anyway good luck!

i have curly hair thats now shoulder length (and making me mad) would it be weird looking if it was asymmetrical and this long there would be like enuf difference for you to be able to tell

With afro hair straightening it without product (not gel - a hair straightening product to protect it from the heat and serum to tame the frizz) is not a good idea. You could get your hair cut but it's not going to get rid of the afro front.
We really need a photo to see what it's really like but I'd try more product and more slim-line straighteners.
change your shampoo and conditioner to a de friz one might help a little bit, you can get creams to put in your hair when its wet to de friz it, try john frieda, it doesnt matter if its a girls stuff might work better for you. hope i helped

Alright I have jaw lenght hair that is naturally lightsly curly [loose curls] / wavy, I straighten it daily. I've been playing with the idea of cutting it even shorter, like this :

No offense hun, but that's not an attractive but no matter what your face looks like. If you do but it that short, it's still going to curl - and you'll look completely silly unless you straighten it each and every day, which is going to seriously harm your hair.

Next spring, I want to completely chop off my hair. I'm actually going to donate it... I figure that someone else can appreciate it more than I do. Anyways, I want to cut it short and possibly have long bangs... sort of a punk/cute hairstyle. That sounds simple enough, except that my hair is really curly/wavy/thick. Above the shoulders will spring up a couple inches and be very unruly. The best cut for my hair is layers and the legnth is a about 3-4 inches below my shoulders. I get compliments on the cut all the time because people hardly ever see a good, flattering cut on curly hair.

Think of it like this: It will take less time to style your hair is it's shorter. BUT when your hair is long you can just throw in some product and walk out the door. This isn't the case with short curly hair. You have to do it everyday. If you are having problems with frizz, try using a mousse instead of leave-in conditioner. After washing my hair, I run anti-frizz cream through, and while I still have some left over on my hands, I scrunch my hair. It doesn'y need more curls, but at least this way, I can kind of control where they go. A little bit of flexible hairspray keeps it in shape.
As for not washing, you'll need to shampoo more than twice a week, since you'll probably need to use products on short hair. Get a clarifying shampoo (pantene carries one) so the product doesn't gunk up your cute new cut.

I have very curly hair and a lot of experience with this area. First, find somebody who really knows how to cut curly hair - it's not the same as straight. Any stylist trained in the Deva method of cutting will give you a better cut if you are curly.
The first cut was the one I liked best. The one with short bangs will be a nightmare to style - the short bangs will shrink up to nothing during the day and look awful. The fourth style was done on rollers - is not a naturally curly cut and the other styles will also take a lot of styling to maintain.
Check out the book Curly Girl - lots of good suggestions for maintaining curly hair - BUT - don't pay too much attention or get hung up on the styles in the pictures - they are sort of dated. But, I use a lot of their techniques (including the no shampoo recommendation) and my hair does not look like those styles. But the ideas for washing, cutting and products are really useful and have changed everything for maintaining my hair. Also check out Deva products.

I have naturally curly hair also. I have found that paul mitchel ';the Conditioner'; which is a leave in looks great in our hair type. If you wash your hair after your shower if you put some conditioner in and then some mouse or styling product. Syle your hair and let it dry naturally. Everybody loves curls so enjoy them. I like my hair parted on the side and air dryed. Also highlights look great with curly hair.

- Read the book and visit the sites below about curly hair. I did and my once horrible curly hair is now virtually frizz-free ringlets. Now I get compliments on my hair all the time! Straighten your hair- be happy for a day, learn to manage your curly hair- be happy for life!
- To style your hair using the curly-girl method you will need gel, a leave in cream, and conditioner at the minimum. Some less useful, but still nice stuff would be a blowdryer, a diffuser (reduces frizz in curly/wavy hair when used with dryer), and a microfiber hair turban (to dry wet hair while sleeping or in the morning).
-The main philosophy of the curly-girl method is to not use shampoo. This may sound unhygenic but it has actually made my hair less oily and dandruffy. Most shampoos contain some of the same chemicals found in laundry detergent (aka sodium laureth sulfate or anything close to that). They dry out curly hair. Also you shouldn't brush your curly hair dry because it damages the hair and makes it poof.
- Massaging of the scalp with conditioner to remove dirt is all that is needed. It will clean everything but super clingy silicones (cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone are examples). Then rinse and spread conditioner on the outside layer of hair and the hair at the nape of your neck. Gently comb tangles out with your fingers or a wide toothed comb and rinse with cold/cool water.
- Do not brush/comb your hair after this point because it wil disturb the curl pattern (make sure you already have a part). It is also important to use gel on sopping wet hair and scrunch the hair with your fingers. Make sure gel is evenly distributed everywhere in your hair. If you use too much you can always scrunch out the crunchy texture later.
- Use paper towels or an old t-shirt to gently scrunch some of the water out (generic towels can make hair frizz). You can either let your hair air dry or wait ten minutes and then use a blowdryer with a diffuser. Dry until your hair is almost dry, and then let air dry the last bit. Do not touch the hair while it is air drying or it will frizz!
- Use a moisturizing conditioner, such as Desert Essence Organics Italian Red Grape Conditioner (found at health food/organic stores) or Activate Hydrating Conditioner (drugstore). The combo of products that I use daily is L'Oreal Out of Bed Weightless Texturizer (comes in a black-colored tub) and then Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Gel or Body Envy Gel, but there are more conditioners, gels, etc. on the websites. The products I recommended are my personal favorites and contain no silicones.
- Your hair may seem worse at first, but it is just adjusting. This may take a couple weeks to begin working. Before you decide to quit shampoo, do a final cleanse with shampoo and stop the use of any products with silicones in them. Hope this helps!

Probably more expensive than you'd like, but ';Bed Head'; products are wonderful. Dumb Blonde or Brunette Goddess are nice, or Moisture Maniac is good, too. Salons carry this brand. The reason that a lot of cheaper products make your hair feel silky to begin with, but don't keep doing it is because they have a lot of wax in them, and it builds up on your hair. Hope this helps. Also, try getting a deep conditioning treatment at your salon once in a while- that should help it stay more smooth.
Herbal essensce Totally Twisted Shampoo and conditioner about $3 each.
I have curly thick hair and it kills the frizz and makes it look ringletly and perfect. ( my hairs chin lenghth-ish)
Also for the occastional jolt of curlyness i recomend Wash and Curl shampoo. ( $2.50) It makes it look all freshly permed
On the cheaper end ( aka decent and very cheap ) Vo5 Extra Body shampoo and conditioner ( $0.97 ea!!!)

I usually alternate washings btwn VO5 and Herbal Essence, since I'm on a massive budget and it helps it all last longer/go further.
Ps I've tried the $$$ salon stuff too , I actually prefer Herbal essence to it. It smells good too!
you should try pantene.. for curls.. this shampoo and conditioner make your hair soft and very easy to detangle..

I've become a big fan of the new line that herbal essences has come out. They have one in an orange bottle called none of your frizziness, and i love it. i have very thick hair and it is kinda short. Its about $3 a bottle and sometimes less. I think they also have one for curly hair, and it is a purple bottle.
Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine...all products, i.e. shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner, smooothing milk, straightening serum....I love all of these products. They work great for me!

I usually alternate washings btwn VO5 and Herbal Essence, since I'm on a massive budget and it helps it all last longer/go further.
Ps I've tried the $$$ salon stuff too , I actually prefer Herbal essence to it. It smells good too!
you should try pantene.. for curls.. this shampoo and conditioner make your hair soft and very easy to detangle..
not really good shampoo but proply they has natural shampoo can be use will help frizzy curly hair, maybe can be sure regrow
try sunsilk...both shampoo and conditioner..use the kind in the darker blue bottle! :) and if u wanna try leave in conditioner...frizz-ease.. :) they both work! good luck! :)
I've become a big fan of the new line that herbal essences has come out. They have one in an orange bottle called none of your frizziness, and i love it. i have very thick hair and it is kinda short. Its about $3 a bottle and sometimes less. I think they also have one for curly hair, and it is a purple bottle.
Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine...all products, i.e. shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner, smooothing milk, straightening serum....I love all of these products. They work great for me!

more if your getting it washed (add about 5-10) and dried (add about 15-20)
it depends on the speed and skill of the stylist.
set aside over an hour for it because your gonna have to wait too.

How hard is it to maintain a short straight hairstyle with semi curly hair? I plan on using a flat iron but not sure how well it works with really short hair. Also any haircut ideas would be great. I'd prefer a straight look as opposed to a curly one. I just had my first baby and my long hair is in the way! :o)

i did that, but no matter how much you striaghten, because your hair will be resting on your shoulders one of the sides will flip out..
it's annoying. there is less options with style. i have wavy/curly hair and i cut it and now im goriwng it back.
Well if ur hair is curly SHAVE YOUR HEAD. let it grow back and it will be streight way better
what kind of straightener do you have? i have very curly hair and i use a chi and it works really well. i used to have short hair (its about 4 in. above my butt now if it were straight) my flat iron made my hair look like it was naturally straight so when i did wear it curly no one knew it was natural. just put a chi sirum in your hair so it doesn't fry as bad. but it won't be hard....but i don't have any ideas for a hair style..im sorry. but good look with your new hair and your new baby!

Is it a bad idea to cut curly hair short?
I have medium thickness brown/blonde currrly hair. Now that it's long (halfway down my back) it's getting weighed down a lot. I want to cut it and donate it..

I can understand wanting to cut and donate it, but let me warn you that once you take all that weight off your hair it's gonna get a LOT curlier. You can either use a straightening iron or take the other person's suggestion and have layers put in it. Personally I like the straightening iron cuz it works great and makes your hair much easier to deal with. My hair's the same way, and I straighten it twice a week. Talk to a stylist and see what they recommend before you do anything. Good luck! One more thing, if you use the straightening iron, be sure to use a protectant spray or cream of some kind to keep your hair from getting fried by all that heat.
